China: The Fun Side

imageHimageello Everyone!

Ive been on an extremely long sabbatical, but I am back to share my trips. I had the opportunity to travel to China May 2014. It was one of the best things I could have possibly did. We went for study abroad while I was in graduate school working on my MBA (which I completed this past May).

We spent 4 nights in Shanghai and then 6 in Beijing. Shanghai was definitely the center of business while Beijing was more history and fun. Having the opportunity to visit several businesses while there was an incredible experience. One of the businesses visited was how to help Americans break into China to expand their business into the growing Asian market which would eventually be the number 1 economy. Each day was a different experience including going to their local markets. The most unique was going to Walmart. Their Walmart was a mixture of a normal Walmart, fruit stand or produce market, and a Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. We were also able to tour GM: Shanghai. We learned the process and toured the plant. That was also an incredible moment to see how much American influence we truly have in foreign countries.

One of the best parts was going into Hutong. It’s an older part of the city absent of skyscrapers and other modern things but rich in history and natural beauty. We experienced the temples, a traditional tea tasting, and a traditional meal in a restaurant as well as with a family. Those are the kind of treats the average tourist misses out on that we were so blessed to be treated to.

We wrapped up our visit to Shanghai to head to Beijing; my favorite part of the trip. We rode via a high speed train to Beijing. Immediately, we were whisked off to a top 5 high school in a city of 25 million. I was fortunate enough to be selected among 5 other students to participate in an open panel discussion about stereotypes within the US and China. I personally feel this trip single handily changed the way I viewed everyone of all nationalities. I threw out any preconceived notions I may have had and so did my fellows Chinese peers.

During the history part of our trip, we visited Tinnamen’s Square, emperors former residence, and The Great Wall of China. This by far was my favorite day. It is truly amazing to see how much the Chinese value their history and know it so well. My favorite was the Great Wall. I mean just being able to stand and walk history was just an awe moment. It’s certainly a place I would recommend anyone to visit. The best was the ride down the wall (you must visit to know what I’m talking about).

Our last few days were spent with Chinese students doing team building and race relations breakdown of stereotypes. We learned so much about each other and felt so much enjoyment. Overall, I would strongly recommend adding China to your list of must visit places.

Ps: if you’re worried about food, they have all of the American favorites including Popeyes (hey, I’m a Louisiana girl, I can’t help it), McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, subway, Burger King, KFC, etc.

European Excursion

I’m finally getting a chance to write about my wonderful journey across Italy, Spain, England, and France. I’ll share how I did this for a very reasonable price and my suggestions for anyone planning a trip there. So let’s get started shall we.

When I found out I would be traveling back to Italy, I was elated and blessed. I knew I didn’t want to do the same things I did the previous year so I began to do my research. I opted to visit Madrid, London, and Paris on this trip. I knew I would book my hotels using Priceline since that gave me the best bang for my buck. The cheapest hotels were in Spain. After I purchased my plane tickets, I started researching my hotel for the individual cities. I was fortunate for London because my coworker is originally from England so she told me which areas to stay in while in London. Madrid and Paris required some research. I used my Kayak app to price airline tickets. When I first started looking before actually buying, Ryanair was the cheapest but when it was time to buy EasyJet came out better. Before my trip, I ordered my Euros from my bank (Capital One) to save on the fees I incurred exchanging it once I got to Europe last year. I would recommend having a major bank such as Capital One because it also saved me on purchases when I used my debit card while there without the transaction fees. So now I’ll share my price breakdown of my hotels, flights, train tickets, taxi, and tours.
Plane Tickets: Milan to Madrid $112.18
Madrid to London $75.07
London to Paris (via Eurostar) $66.00
Paris to Milan $99.63
Total on transportation between cities: $352.88
Hotels: Madrid $95.42
London $170.49
Paris $343.52
Hotel Total: $609.43
Taxi/Train Tickets
Taxi from Madrid Airport 35€
Taxi to Madrid Airport 30€
Train from London Gatwick Airport 17.70€
Train to International Train Station 2.50€
Taxi from Paris Orly Airport 30€
Taxi to Paris Orly Airport 40€
Total Airport/Train Station 155.20€
Tours: Madrid 20€
Paris 29€
Eiffel Tower 15€
Tours Total 64€
Grand Total for the dollars$ 962.31
Grand Total for the euros 219.20€ ($298)
Complete total: $1260.31

Now I’ll breakdown and share what I did. For my flights, I prepaid for my luggage and a close seat to the front. EasyJet is similar to southwest but a tad bit better and much cheaper if you ask me. By prepaying for that, I did spend more money upfront but it was savings in the long run. On my train journey, I did not have to pay for luggage so that was a savings. Since I was trotting around by myself, I opted to take a taxi to and from the airport with the exception of London. The reason I didn’t in London is because the train station was right across from my hotel and had a direct route to the international train station. The low cost of the taxis was worth it because I did get to see the cities. As far as my tours, I did a hop on hop off in Madrid and Paris. I opted to not have a tour in London since my hotel was walking distance to all major sites with the exception of Harrods. My hotel in Madrid was also in the center of the city. It was near the largest square which was full of culture. My hotel in Paris was near the bank of the seine river and somewhat walking distance to the major museums on a warm summer day not so much in the cold. The Eiffel Tower tour allowed me access to skip the line and go to the top of the tower. So that’s the money side of it, now the fun side of my trip. FYI paying for as much as I did prior to leaving allowed me to have more “free money” to spend and not have to worry about much once I got to my cities except shopping

Madrid
It is truly a gorgeous city with amazing architecture! I’m so in love with the European culture and history and Madrid was everything I expected. My sorority sister lives in Malaga so she came up to Madrid to hang out with me for my one night in town. We walked around the main square and just browsed city life. Her flight was early so after she left, I hopped on my tour. I got to see the palaces and cathedrals that were centuries old. I also got to see the hotel where the participants for the running of the bulls stay. Overall, Madrid is a beautiful city with amazing architecture. The thing I love the most about Europe is that they keep the old architecture up and not try to modernize the city too much but retaining the history. I love history so I’m quite spoiled by these European countries. I would certainly rate Madrid as a must see. Plus the shopping and food was great! At one restaurant, our server gave us a tablet as a Christmas gift. Of course sangria is a must drink. My next stop was London.

London London London, I cannot tell you how much I loved London. I walked around the cities lush parks and gardens. Buckingham palace was beyond words could describe. It’s in the heart of Westminister city. I arrived at Buckingham Palace in time to see the changing of the guard. I was able to take a video as it was just great actually seeing it in person. There were school children on a field trip which just made me feel at home in a sense. I walked around since my hotel was centrally located. I walked the tree lined street with the adjacent park to Big Ben passing several monuments, parks, cathedrals, and churches. I did see the church in which William and Kate were married. I missed my chance to take a photo in a telephone booth. After taking pics of parliament and Big Ben, I walked back towards the shops and did a little shopping. By the time I was finish, it was time to head back to catch my train to Paris. London is also a must visit. I wish I had more time but that just means I’ll need to go back and visit.

The city of Love, Lights, and everything magical is Paris. 😍 I loved every single thing about Paris. The first night I arrived I just went straight to my hotel to rest for my day of touring and sightseeing. I woke up the next morning and started my journey. I began my tour at none other than the Eiffel Tower. On my way to the Eiffel Tower I passed the Lock Bridge. I’ll have to bring my beau back so we can do a lock on it. The Eiffel Tower was everything I imagined it to be and a whole bunch more! Throughout this trip, I literally had to pinch myself because I could not believe I was actually in the midst of great history. The views were astonishing from the 2nd level. I personally don’t think anyone has to go all the way to the top other than to say they’ve been to the top as there’s not much to distinguish. At the second level is a much better view. The first level was closed due to construction and renovations. After leaving the Eiffel Tower, I was able to take great shots at the park across the street. I hopped on my bus and proceeded to see several museums including the Louvre and Orsay, just to name the most famous and probably notable, but Paris has so many museums that one would have to stay almost 3 months to view them all. Due to the size of the museums, I opted to skip them and will visit on my next trip. The monuments and statues were also apart of the tour. I got to see where Coco Chanel final residence was as well as the Chanel store on the bottom floor of the building. Paris at night was beautiful. I walked along the Champs élysées as the Christmas lights were lit and the market was going. It was just an amazing site. In and out of stores as everyone rushed to buy Christmas gifts. I also went into a few bakeries and pastry shops which were Bon appetite! Overall I’d have to say Paris was more than I expected and can’t wait to go back.

I had an amazing trip. I still love my Italy especially Rome but Paris is definitely competition for my beloved Rome. I can’t wait to see where my next journey takes me. I personally believe that if you can dream it, you can do it. I hope you all can one day use anything I share for your own personal trip. Please feel free to ask me any questions as it is already lengthy and didn’t want to make it too lengthy.

I wish everyone a Happy & Blessed New Years!

From Coast to Coast: NYC & LA

In August, I traveled with 8 other fabulous ladies to NYC to see Motown: The Musical. It was a great weekend. The journey there and home could’ve been better, but in the end it was a great trip. We flew out of New Orleans and used Park N Fly as our resident parking place. I now get coupons so it’s definitely worth it to sign up and join any airport parking membership clubs. Anyways, back to the trip. We arrived in NYC and took 3 taxis from the airport. NYC taxi drivers are like none other, that’s for sure! I do not believe I have ever been carsick before but hey life is all about first!

We stayed at the Sheraton in Times Square. That was such a great location. We were steps away from everything including all the theaters. Our group split up as we all had different “must see” things. I hadn’t been to NYC in 10 years so things had certainly changed. I promised the city I wouldn’t wait that long to comeback again. We walked Times Square then I happened to stumble upon my favorite store, Victoria’s Secret!!! I’m sure I’m not the only female whose ever taken a picture in front of the iconic store. I love everything VS, it’s my slight obsession. After walking more, we ran across Central Park and Columbus Circle. I have to say late August was the best time to go as the weather was PERFECT! We really just walked around then ate on our first night.

Saturday we went on a tour with City-Sightseeing. We got to see all the monuments NYC is known for. It was truly a great time exploring the city. The tour was a hop on hop off so we got to experience everything we wanted. After the tour, we ate then got dressed to go to the play. I cannot say enough great things about the play. I don’t want to give too much away, but it is a MUST SEE! Our journey back to Louisiana came far too soon! We managed to spend less than $500 a piece for our tour, hotel, plane ticket, and show ticket. We had a great time and started planning for our next trip!

“It never rains in Southern California.” I felt that was only right to start this post with since it’s about Cali! Like NYC, I hadn’t been to Cali since my aunts 70th birthday a few years ago. This trip was long overdue. The plane ticket was only $151 round trip and nonstop, 2 things you just can’t beat. I happened to be browsing and stumbled upon it and bought it immediately. My first night there wasn’t that eventful to some but to me it was perfect. My cousin picked us up from the airport and we went by my aunts then stayed at his house for the night. We came with gifts and goodies in the form of food. They aren’t as lucky getting the fabulous food as we are so everyone was quite pleased and happy to discover the Manda sausage and Camelia red beans.

Saturday was a fun family filled day. We had a BBQ at my aunts house. My line sister who lives in Cali also came over. She was overjoyed with the sausage as it’s a staple here to cook with Manda’s. We went out to a club on Hollywood boulevard. It was a blast. As many times as I’ve been to Cali before, I was never able to actually be a tourist because we were always doing something family related so this was a breath of fresh air to be out and about. My cousin showed us a great time! I didn’t see any Hollywood stars I recognized so next trip, I’ll be sure to be a tourist again. The club was fun! I definitely danced and had a great time. I believe the club was Playhouse. Sunday we had a chill kind of day. We went to Venice Beach just as the sun was setting. The sunset was just beautiful! I love the beach and water, the inner Pisces in me just loves being near the ocean. As our weekend came to an end, I had the realization that life is indeed short and you never know what or when something will happen. The purpose of the trip was to visit my aunt who had been diagnosed with cancer and it was spreading. She looked amazing and had a great time with us while we were there. This trip was just what was needed in the middle of a hectic semester. Cherish your love ones and smile at a stranger every now and then. You never know how you will brighten someone’s day!

Washington, D.C.: The Nation’s Capital

I’m finally writing about my trip to Washington dc. I had an amazing time while I was there on an extended weekend. I was there for my sorority’s convention so getting to do everything in a shirt amount of time took great planning and execution. So let’s begin this journey shall we.

My line sister and I flew from New Orleans to DC. We had a straight flight on US Airways. It was my first time flying the airline. The planes were nice and definitely updated. I actually will be flying US Airways to NYC in a few weeks. So upon arrival we bought metro fare cards to use to get around for the next few days. We put $10 on our fare card and that lasted us until Monday morning when we left in which we had to add a few more dollars to get to the airport. The first place we ate at in DC is a soul food restaurant near the campus of Howard University. The quaint place was Florida Ave Grill. The food was good and definitely gave you more than enough for your money. After lunch we took a nap before our journey began.

Before we left BR, we looked up the cost for renting a bike to bike around while we see the monuments. We were not given all the information so I will share with you all now. We were going to go with capital bike sharing which are red bikes and they are literally located everywhere throughout the city. In order to not have a $102 hold on your card for up to 7 days it is best to order the membership key at least 2 weeks in advance before your trip. We opted to walk around to the monuments which gave us great exercise anyway. We took the metro from Howard’s campus (where we stayed at a friend’s apartment) to the monuments. We started with the Washington Memorial. Unfortunately, construction was being done so we could not get a great picture of the monument. We made our way to the Korean War Memorial, World War II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and of course the White House. There’s so much I can say about everything. I believe that everyone should take a trip to the memorials as it gives so much history including famous quotes and speeches made from the individuals as well as statues. This was my first time back to DC (other than a layover) in 10 years and I appreciated every single aspect of the monuments and memorials. The best thing is they are all free. If someone is ever trying to sell you a tour, opt out , get the bikes and go for free. One tidbit about the bikes are that the first 30 minutes are free. Therefore you would only pay the rental fee if you get to your destination in less than 30 minutes which is totally possible because we did walking. After our walking tour and great pictures, we ended our journey at the White House for some great nighttime shots. We then went to eat at the best restaurant we ate at the entire time we were there well that and another one which happens to be owned by the same people. Eatonville in DC was beyond words can describe. The food was impeccable and priced great. It was a Friday night so we had the pleasure of having a singer perform which reminded me of a jazz club atmosphere in New Orleans which really made me feel right at home.

Saturday we walked around chinatown and toured the American History Museum. During our excursion we saw a Living Social store which definitely made me excited as it is one of my favorite apps on the iPhone. We then made our way to the museum. It was so nice walking down memory lane and seeing history. From the beginning of GM to food markets to the First Ladies gowns to the Presidents history, it had everything you could ever imagine. The best part is that it is free. DC is a relatively inexpensive trip since so much is free, it’s just a matter of getting there. After the museum tour, we met with more line sisters to eat at the W in DC. The view from the patio is more than words could ever say. It has a view of the White House and the monuments and memorials. I enjoyed ever second while I was there. The food was also amazing there.

Sunday was a day of Greek life so to say. We bought things from the vendors and toured Howard’s campus. We got amazing pictures at the university. Our DC excursion wasn’t quite over with just yet as we ate at Busboys and Poets. The food there was also amazing in which we found out that the same owners owned Eatonville too. I just have to say how mouth watering and delicious the collard greens were at both restaurants. My mouth is watering thinking about it.

DC has some of the most amazing food. I enjoyed every single moment of my trip. It was one for the books and would not change my experience there. It was the perfect weekend. I truly feel like I could go back there in a month and see a totally different DC and still have an incredible time. It is definitely a trip I recommend for families especially children. It is a history lesson brought to life. While in DC we took the bus, metro, and taxi to get around and spent about $30 total a piece on transportation. I hope you enjoyed my journey to DC. I have a few weeks off then I will be heading to Orange Beach, AL then NYC the following weekend. My travel for the summer is coming to a close and I hope you have enjoyed my journey. As always any questions feel free to ask or email. Have a wonderful week!!

Dallas

I’m currently on my journey back home from Dallas. In my quick 24 hour turnaround, I had a good time. We stayed at Hotel Adolphus in downtown Dallas. I wasn’t impressed with their food selection in the area and the hours. This was my first time staying downtown, and it will probably be my last. I prefer staying near the galleria at Le Meridian. The restaurant hours were accommodating to the businesses which are of course closed on the weekends. We did find a good burger place. It was Chop House Burger. The way the burger was served reminded me of the burger place we ate at last week in Puerto Rico. We couldn’t decide on a place to eat so we just ate snacks at the arena. Beyonce put on quite the show! We had a blast!!! She is certainly right behind my favorite performer, Janet Jackson. The only things I’d change about the trips is the hotel. It was a nice hotel. I think with some updating, it will be back to it’s original charm and grandeur. We had an issue and it was solved immediately. Overall, it was a good weekend! Stay tuned as I’ll blog about my DC trip I’m taking next week!

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico!!!! I had an amazing time there despite the rain every single day we were there. So lets get started shall we!

We arrived at MSY (new Orleans). The past few times I’ve flown, the airport was still under renovations. I have to say it looks extremely good now, very impressed. We dined at the Zatarains restaurant which was really good. We flew Southwest to Fort Lauderdale then AirTran to San Juan. Well I’ve flown out of Fort Lauderdale but never changed planes. Whew were we in for a doozy. It was the first time I’ve ever had to go through security when simply changing terminals. I’m not sure why that’s the case but it was truly the weirdest thing. The only other time you go back through security is changing flights from an international to a domestic flight. We arrived in San Juan and it was a big & nice airport.

We didn’t do much the first night other than find food. Our condo was in the perfect location!!!! We were walking distance to everything! Saturday we went to the Bacardi Rum Factory. It was relatively cheap to get there. We took taxis to Old San Juan since the buses didn’t exactly run on a schedule. The ferry ride was $.50 each way. We ate at Don Tello which is right across the street from the ferry dock. It was a really good restaurant that served authentic Puerto Rican food. After we ate, we took a shuttle to the Bacardi factory. When we arrived, there was a welcome desk that gives the tour time & 2 free drink tickets. The drinks did not disappoint at all. We also bought drinks. I do not care for mojitos at all here, but the Mojito there was the best drink I’ve ever tried! It was so good. The bartender even gave my beau a thing to make them. During the tour we learned the history of how Bacardi came about. It is certainly interesting. I won’t share as I’d rather you all go tour for yourselves. After the tour, I bought some rum from the gift shop I’ve never seen here. The rest of the evening, we walked around Ashford avenue and enjoyed a nice stroll on the beach.

Sunday was a nice chill day. We lounged at the beach and found the most amazing restaurant. Orozco’s was just amazing!!!!! Authentic Puerto Rican food at its finest. He ordered a seafood mofongo which had a plethora of seafood. I had rice and beans, plantains, and beef. It was quite yummy. We were rained out Sunday night so our exploring was cut short.

Monday was also another bummer of a day due to rain. We scheduled a Flavors of Old San Juan tour. Unfortunately, due to the monsoon our tour was cancelled. The staff tried to accommodate us but couldn’t due to our schedule. I definitely want to take the tour one day. So we decided to make our own tour so to say. We spent our day at the beach and eating at the local eateries around us once the rain stopped.

Tuesday was our best day! We toured the forts in Old San Juan. It was packed because two cruise ships were docked at two different ports so it made it quite busy. There was definitely a different vibe in Old San Juan that day. We almost felt like locals and the cruisers were in our city. The forts offered amazing views of the city. Between the two forts was Carmelo Anthony’s court which was cool to see. I’ll post some pics so you all can see my amazing journey.

The best part about the trip was the food and drinks! I loved the food trucks in Old San Juan. So good & yummy. It provably wasn’t the healthiest but vacations aren’t for the health conscience. We were fortunate to have good taxi drivers who told us what things were and where to go and about free things. That was nice of them. Overall I give Puerto Rico 2 thumbs up! It was a great trip and I can’t wait for my next adventure!

My Favorite Places: Italy

Finally!!!!! I am going to share my Italian adventure. There’s so much that can be said about it. I will just go by each day.

Day 1
I arrived early Saturday morning at MXP which is Milan’s larger of the 2 airports. It was Snow White outside. Being from the south, I have never experience that before so it was gorgeous to me but to my friend it was annoying. I went through customs, gathered my luggage, and hugged my friend who I hadn’t seen in over a year. I knew this would be a great week! My friend told me we would relax then go to her brother’s birthday party. Immediately I’d be immersed into true Italian culture and family. Later in the evening, we arrived at her brother’s house. They had homemade pizzas and desserts. It was so yummy and easily the best pizza I’ve ever had in life. After the party, we went out with her boyfriend and his best friend. I honestly couldn’t tell you the name of the clubs, but they did play American music so I had a blast.

Day 2
It really wasn’t much to Day 2 because my body was still on American time so I slept almost the entire day, and it didn’t help we got in at 430am. Once we woke up, we went to the mall. It is 1 of the largest malls in Europe. I found it interesting that grocery stores are in malls and shopping centers so it’s literally a 1 stop shop. Also, fast food chains are not drive-thrus. They are attached to something as well. Anyways, we ate at McDonald’s and I loved their Miami fries, much better than the fries here. My friend’s boyfriend took us to an Italian restaurant for dinner. It was really good and traditional. They even gave me a menu in English! We had a cheese and meat platter as an appetizer. I ordered traditional ravioli which was amazing!!!! I paired it with a red wine. My dessert was a hot/cold gelato like mixture which was really good as well. We ended the night with an after dessert shot. That was our Sunday night!

Day 3
Milan!!!!! I do not think I am a “fashionista” but I love fashion’s ever evolving trends. What better place to be than 1 of the fashion capitals of the world! I booked a tour through city-sightseeing. It was a hop on hop off tour throughout the city. It started at an amazing castle and ended there as well. We saw many of the city’s gems including cathedrals, historic landmarks, canals with water boats and restaurants, shopping, and everything in between. I hopped off at the Duomo-Galleria stop. The Duomo is just breathtaking true old world architecture with marble and wood and the best materials. I browsed through the galleria as that was certainly out of my price range. I did find shops that I bought a few things. Just being immersed in the culture was enough for me. I walked through the shops and turned down the streets and just snapped pictures. I spent a few hours in the shopping area taking pictures and just enjoying my time end trying to stay warm. After the tour I took a taxi to my friend’s job and we went back to her house. I slept all the way home. My body was still not use to the time change.

Day 3
My favorite day of the entire trip! Rome! I still pinch myself because I fell in love with that city. I took the train from Milan to Rome. It was a fast ride and I mostly slept. I used the same tour company again that allowed me to hop on and hop off, city-sightseeing! The buses had plug in headphones that allowed it to be said in different languages. I think it was 8-10. I saw many historical landmarks, Roman courts, amphitheaters, famous statues, the Coliseum, Tiber River, ancient ruins, Spanish steps, Sistine Chapel, Vatican, Vatican museum, and just so much more I certainly don’t remember it all. One of the most touching things to me was being able to see the Vatican since I am catholic. Seeing the coliseum was just an awe moment. At some point I thought about my history classes at Southern University with Dr. Comminey. I was finally seeing everything I learned about and it made sense. I think it is an integral part to actually see history because it meant so much more. I will show some photos at the end of the blog. My next stop was Vatican City. I spent the rest of my day here until I had to get back to catch my train to Milan. We walked through the Vatican museum which held artifacts, mostly the original and a few replicas. It was quite the place. I did the short tour which is still about 2.5-3 hours. In order to see every single thing, it would take over 14 hours and that’s just walking through. So needless to say I didn’t have 14 hours to spare. I did see the most important things. The last place I saw just before going into the Vatican was the Sistine chapel. It is truly amazing. To know that Michelangelo went blind 3 times painting it and did not make one mistake is truly mind blowing. We were fortunate that we got to see it as we all know now our former Pope resigned and the Sistine chapel would be limiting the daily number of people entering starting this past January. While the world watched the cardinals elect the new pope, it brought me back to being there. The Sistine chapel only has natural light because it is so old that any direct light or cameras will deteriorate it at a faster rate. So I do not have any pictures of it just the memories. I hope to be able to take my future children one day to experience this. My last stop, the Vatican itself. First, it’s quite hard to imagine that this was built hundreds of years ago. The marble and stone will have one in awe. It is 3 stories. I walked in on the 2nd floor or the main floor. This is where the main alter is which is where mass is celebrated. Pope John Paul II tomb is on this floor so I did get a picture. His is the least intricate of the Popes. He did not want the typical fanfare. There are over 18 alters in the Vatican, all the Popes tombs in the lower floor, and St. Peter’s tomb. Since St. Peter’s Basilica is built on the site where he was crucified, it is in the basilica where he is said to have suffered his death. After taking pictures I left and caught the bus back to the train station. Rome’s traffic is much like the states except with smaller cars. I did see the shopping district and other landmarks. I probably didn’t pay as much attention because I was still in shock at what I had just witnessed.

Day 4
This was a calm day. I slept all day. My friends mom came and cooked me lunch and I went back to sleep. The previous few days wore me out.

Day 5
On day 5 I toured Bergamo. It was a city straight out of a movie or storybook. The town had a Christmas tree, outside market with decorations and gift ideas, a train for kids to ride, and just anything you can imagine. It was really cute. I walked around and shopped. I purchased Christmas gifts for my family and friends here. I bought Italian crystal, coffee, bath items, and anything else I thought I could fit in my already stuffed suitcase. It was everything you’ve seen in movies brought to life. I enjoyed walking around like a local and shopping. After I finished I went and had hot chocolate and dessert cookies in a coffee shop.

Day 6
Venice! I was finally going to Venice. After seeing the Angelina movie in Venice, it’s been a goal of mine to see the canals of Venice. It certainly did not disappoint. As soon as I got off the train, I caught the water bus to San Marco island. Venice is made up of over 120 islands. So each island is named something different but collectively it is Venice. Of those 120 islands only about 10 allow cars to actually be used as a method of transportation. It’s a walking and boating kind of city. I got to walk the roads that Marco Polo did. I saw where his family lived. In those days entire families lived in a building. The buildings are not small in the least bit. There are small canals and of course there’s the grand canal of Venice. There are bridges over the mini canals and it’s so cute. During the tour we could see how the buildings are sinking into the water. My advice is for everyone to get there ASAP. While it may not go underwater during our lifetime, it most likely will be the underwater city in a few centuries. I managed to get sick so I did not get to go on the grand canal tour but only made my walking tour. I did ride along the grand canal on my water bus but that is the extent of it so I did not know what I was looking at on my ride. I hope the next time I go back I fight the weather. It was cold and of course wet since its the city built on water. It just wasn’t a good mixture for me and my lack of sleep. When I returned home and went to my doctor she told me her husband got sick on their honeymoon there so I felt I was in good company. Later that night we had an Italian Christmas and dinner. It was my last night before I returned back to the states.

Day 7
Time to come home. After a whirlwind vacation, the great vacation came to an end. I had an amazing time. My friend and her family couldn’t have been a better hostess. My flight left early so we had to wake up early as the airport is about an hour ride. We briefly stopped in Germany before heading to DC then to Nola. Lufthansa is by far the best way to travel when flying to and from Europe. It was quite the plane with plenty of room in economy compared to my flight going.

Food
I ate at little cafes everywhere. I did not have not 1 bad meal my entire trip. So I recommend just finding a small restaurant where the owners are the cooks. I loved that!

Recap
I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation. I know it’s a tad long but I tried to make it as short as possible. I’ll be jetting back to Europe next summer and possibly the end of this year. I would have to say it was everything and more than I could have ever thought it would be. I hope everyone can experience history in person.

I decided that I will share my Fee’s Favorite things when I visit San Juan, Puerto Rico in a couple weeks, Dallas is an overnight trip to see Beyonce, Washington, D.C. is for my sorority’s national convention, and New York City is a ladies trip to see Motown: The Musical. I have a jammed packed summer. I will most certainly share my experiences with you all. I’m finish with 2/4 trips itineraries just working on the other 2. In the meantime I will write about my other favorite places. I will certainly write about Italy soon as I know many people are traveling to Europe this summer. I fell in love with Rome and cannot wait to go back to Europe next summer and visit 4 countries! Yes I plan in extreme advance. As always, feel free to ask me for any suggestions! Happy Travels this travel season!
